This Scholarship fund was established in honor of Jim Chrobak, a spectacular member of the Rogers Park community, avid supporter of Camp Play-A-Lot, and late father of Camp PAL’s associate camp director, Jamie Chrobak.
Jim was known across Rogers Park for his activism, both in the literal and metaphorical sense. On the one hand, you could find Jim taking his daily, multi-mile walks throughout the neighborhood and beyond, to Warren Park, the Skokie Canal, or the local coffee shops. He was also very involved in community activist projects, regularly volunteering for fundraiser events sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters, or supporting community-sponsored outreach projects. Jim was truly the epitome of someone living life to the fullest, even in his latest days in life. He never stopped traveling, visiting over 30 states in the U.S. during his lifetime accompanied by his wife Jill. He is also remembered for frequently patronizing local neighborhood businesses like Candlelite and most notably, many will remember him as being a diehard fan for every Chicago sports team, but especially the World Series Champion Cubs, Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks, and small-but-mighty St. Scholastica Stingers.
Camp Play-A-Lot wishes to establish this award to recognize Jim, his legacy, and his hopes for making the world, and especially Rogers Park, a better place.
